Curiosity Matters
I’m trying something new. Welcome. Hopefully, you’re welcome.
This is the first edition of a regular email to this small group of friends, colleagues, and partners. You are the people who have grown with me over the years. Maybe we’ve worked together or maybe we’ve just shared a beverage and solved some big problems. Either way, I’m creating this email to continue those great conversations on a regular basis, in between the times we talk, about the importance of HOW we all get things done, which ultimately makes us better at the WHAT we do.
If you are reading this, you might not be surprised at this new endeavor. You know I’m a tinkerer and I want to know how things work. I can’t help myself. I get into something – especially with someone else – and I have to figure out the end point. A client once described me as ‘malleable, but not flakey.’ I laughed when I heard his description. I proudly adopted the moniker.
So I’m inviting you in. My goal is that this will be interactive. My hope is that this will add value to your life and work. My request from you is that you’ll:
- Tell me if I have blind spots in my thinking (personally or in my business pursuits)
- Tell me about anyone I should be add to this email (referrals have been the lifeblood of my career)
Here’s why this kind of communication matters to me (and the context below will hopefully make this first edition the longest of those to come). Our firm turned 15 years old on Sep 10, 2022. Over the last several months, we’ve realized that in the ‘new normal’, we don’t have the same opportunity to connect with people at meetings, conferences, socials, or community events. We are in a chapter of business/life where days go slow, and years go fast. Or, as my father-in-law used to say, ‘growing up isn’t for the faint of heart.’
So, in addition to this email to this small group, Energent will begin sharing two additional regular pieces – Energy Matters and Resilience Matters -to our wider base of partners and clients, all to dig into topics in bite sized and “news-you-can-use” formats:
Energy Matters – this email will focus on current pressure, news, and pricing in the electric and natural gas sectors in the United States. We are in a period of extreme volatility – both economically and politically. Our goal is to be your trusted source of consistent information for energy.
Resilience Matters – this email will focus on the emerging pressure to report on an organization’s environmental impact, as well as the impact of climate change on operations. The pressure is coming from several angles at once – customers, employees, investors, and regulators have all pushed for greater transparency and accountability. The scary fact is that there is no industry standard or paint-by-numbers way to report on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) topics. Our goal is to provide best practices, case studies and to become your trusted source of consistent information on environmental reporting.
By default, we’re subscribing you to both publications above. Feel free to unsubscribe to either or both as you see fit. I value your feedback most so if you have to pick one, please pick engaging in this email (Curiosity Matters).
Thanks for joining me as we launch this. Normally this first section will be on a topic. The rest will be some focused thoughts that are rattling around in my head these days. Give it a skim or a good hard look. I hope they encourage and challenge you each month.
